Hey everybody,

I raised from the time I was 8 until about 16 when my family moved from northern B.C to Alberta. A decent sized moved, we sold all he animals on the farm. I moved on with life, but now find myself back on a farm and want to get back into my chickens and start up a business. Something I've been wanting to do for a long time. And I love eggs.

I want to raise 4 breeds at a time. Later I might switch it up, sell all the chickens off one breed and start a new one. But that is a future plan. Currently I have

4 Rhode Island Red Bantams. 1 Hen, 2 pullets (one may be a rooster, but really hoping not), and a rooster.
3 Faverolles. 2 hens and a rooster
2 silkies, 1 hen and rooster
4 Jersy Giants. 3 hens one rooster.

Anyways, I'm collecting hatching eggs. I'll let you all know how things go. I really like this site. So much to learn.

you'll probably need more pullets/hens. One rooster of each breed, can handle several. If there are only one or two, he (they will overbreed the hens) But, then that's what hen aprons are for (selling on BYC in the 'everything else for sale,' thread)

sorry if this is a repost. My last post didn't show up. What I said was:

I have three chicken tractors. One with the roosters, one with the bantams, and one with the standards. I would have the bantams and standards together, but the bantams were bullied to much. The roosters get along great, even the bantams and standards. My Jersey Giant "Mr Doodles" is the boss.

I introduce the roosters to their breed of hens in the evenings in indivdual pens for mating as to not mix breeds. only for a couple of hours, then they are back into their original configuration. There has been no injury, everyone is healthy.
