Hey guys,

Great forum here - my #1 hobby is Fishing but my daughter wanted to try raising Backyard chickens so I spent hours and hours reading up on this great resource you have here and figured I better try to contribute where I can. Still very new to this but the learning curve has been much easier with the help from BYC. We went to a local guy who breeds chickens and picked out the ones we liked best. We were supposed to have 2 Bantam Partridge Rocks, 2 Bantam Buff Rocks, 1 full sized Barred Rock and 2 Golden Phoenix chicks. So far the only one that seems oddly colored is one of our supposed Partridge Rocks.... We think he's a rooster, but either way he's got a white chest and nice white streaks down the back of his head, neck and upper shoulders.... His sister (hopefully) is fully decked out in awesome looking traditional partridge rock colors. I'll try to get a few better pictures when I have a moment. Right now they're still in their brooder but we'll be building a nice coop for them in the next couple of weeks................

Not to sound negative but I just tried to post a bunch of photos with my report, and spent time describing each one then when I tried to post I was told new members can't post photos.... that's very frustrating...

Cheers,
Ryan & Family

Where in Canada? Yeah, about the pics--we had alot of spammers who would join and post their links and such, and it really got out of hand, so unfortunately, you have to have a few posts under your belt before links and pics can be added. It is just precasutionary to Keep the forum clean. Chickens are great, I'm glad your dd had the brilliant idea to get some. Nothing better than fresh eggs!

Thanks Miss_thenorth! We live in Norfolk County - Near Longpoint on the north shore of Lake Erie. Where about are you from? I grew up in Sudbury, went to college in London, worked in Toronto and now live out here. I understand about the spammers - I'm a regular on an Ontairo fishing board and we have a little trouble with spam over there as well. It just would have been nice to know before I spent 20 minutes typing up the photo section of my post... haha I read the "Must Read" section and must have missed the newbie/photo rule? Do you know if there's a set number of how many posts one has to put up before being able to add photos? I'm hoping to get some insight on breed and sex questions for our chicks. If we end up with to many ROO's I want to order a couple of SEXED chicks that are at least somewhat guaranteed to be female.

Anyways - thanks again!

Cheers,
Ryan

YOu know, maybe we should get ahold of Nifty to make a sticky in the new members forum, as I'm sure it happens to alot of noobs.

I'm down around Chatham, well, five minutes to Lake Erie, grew up around here, went to college in London, Moved up near TImmins and MISS IT terribly, now back down around here. I can't complain, I have my hobby farm so it keeps me out of trouble.

Thanks CP92! I think it's great that this board has such a diverse group from all over.... My fishing board is mainly people from my province with a few members from NY state and Michigan... What do you target primarily? Familiar at all with the Bassmaster Elite Series? Ever heard of Dave Mercer's Facts of Fishing THE SHOW?

So far so good on the site - VERY informative and you chicken folks ( I guess I'm one to now ) seem to be just as top knotch as us fishin' Folks! haha I'm sure I'll be full of questions and hopefully be able to help others along the way.

Cheers,
Ryan

My mom loves to fish, and so did my dad.
