Hi, my name is JB. I messed around with chickens when I was younger. Me and my dad we had a lot of bantams, mostly Cochins. But as I got older my interest in chickens shrunk and my love for pretty girls began. I turned my back on my chickens. I moved around a bit after high school and could never have chickens where I was living. Not that I was thinking about chickens(maybe chicks) at that point. I moved many times from high school til I was about 40. I got married and my wife and I bought a little house with a couple acres out in the country. The same town we grew up in. Matter of fact, we moved next door to the house I grew up in. One of our very first projects was building a chicken coop and getting chickens. I talked about it to different people in the community and we started a little mixed flock. I then ran across a lady who knew a guy that was getting rid of everything, 25 chickens included. Some Dominique, some Rhode Island Red, Orpingtons, and a HUGE Black Copper Maran rooster. He roosted on the ground. So, I made a deal and the guy said if you’ll come get me you can have em. I was in chicken heaven. A new(well new to me) coop and 25+ chickens to go with it. The coop was packed(not a good idea). And I would go to the market and bring home more. They started getting sick and I believe to this day it was because they were overcrowded and stressed. Thankfully we only had a couple die and we were able to get everybody else well. I went as soon as everybody was feeling good and I took half of em or more to the market and sold em all to one guy. He got a great deal and I solved a problem. Since then we’ve had no more than 15 in the coop at one time and we don’t have sick chickens anymore. Of course we picked up a few tricks from old farmers along the way and we’ve been able to keep a healthy flock or two. We already had several breeds including Americauna, BCM, Speckled Sussex(lovely breed), Orpingtons. I’ll skip some stuff. Some of you have quit reading by now anyway. We came across the Bielefelder and we drove 2 1/2 hours to get 3 juveniles. We just fell in love with them. So over the course of a couple years we phased out some of the other breeds and brought in more Bielefelder’s. We keep telling ourselves that we’re gonna start a breeding program(next year). Hasn’t happened yet. But we did find another breed/s that I really wanted to have around. Whiting True Blues and Whiting True Greens. So I ordered 10 pullets, 5 of each and I believe we ended up with one boy(he’s the prettiest) in the Blues. I’m gonna keep him and hopefully get a breeding program started. Now I’m looking for a Whiting True Green Cockerel/juvenile. I’ve searched the internet to see the difference in a rooster and a hen and I’m not having any luck.
Can anybody show me the difference in a Whiting True Green Hen and a Whiting True Green Rooster. They all look exactly alike from the pictures I’ve seen. Surely there’s a difference. Thanks for sticking this out with me. My thumbs are getting tired. But Hello from JB and Mal in Corner, AL(North Central Alabama). I hope somebody reads this and is able to show me the difference in the Greens. What’s most important is at the end of the day and all day we know we’re all children of God. Brothers and Sisters. And everybody matters and deserves to have a voice and to share it with the rest of us.
God Bless
