Hello! My family and I are new to raising chickens and are loving it so far! Our chickens are about 4 months old now. We've had them since about day 3. We have 2 buff orpingtons, 2 plymouth barred rocks and 2 silkies. We are still uncertain whether they are hens or roosters. We are hoping to be able to keep all 6. (Our town does not allow roosters)
Yesterday, one of our silkies began crowing, very early in the morning, when my husband let them out of the coop. She did it about 6 times. She hasn't done it today. I have read so much and don't know if "she's", a he. I also read silkies are very hard to determine the sex. Who knows!
Attached is a couple photos of our flock and our questionable crowing silkie. Hope to hear your opinions!

from West Virginia! You have some beautiful chickas there!!! I don't know anything about Silkies other than they are very pretty! I have 2 Buff Orpingtons also. The one on the right behind the Barred Rock looks just like my rooster. The other Buff looks like my hen. My rooster was supposed to be a hen...guess no one told HIM that!!!

Good luck with your flock. If you have to rehome some of them, I hope you are able to find good homes for them.

Welcome to the coop!!
