I've been lurking this site for months for information but haven't joined. Currently my paranoia is that I am overfeeding my birds vegetables. Tomorrow's paranoia might be that I'm using the wrong brand feed.

I have 5 chickens that I got on June 2 as hatchlings (so they are just over 12 weeks). I have 2 barred rock, 2 buff orpington (we were on the fence as to what breed Lucky was), and 1 golden laced wyandotte. We also have 2 Pekin ducks that were an impulse purchase by my husband.

I currently obsess over these birds to the point that I think my husband is convinced I'm crazy. I think that I rake their run and clean their water containers more than most sane people would do. My favorite part of my day is getting home from work and letting them out to run around the yard.

My husband and I live in central MA, both work in Boston area and do not have children- so these birds- along with a greyhound, cat, and 2 elderly pythons are our "children".

Since my friends and family are getting tired of my chicken and duck pictures on Instagram and Facebook, I figured it was time to join a "support group" of like-minded people.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. The only thing we will do about your chicken addiction is to ENCOURAGE IT

you are very safe here and can talk about chickens all you want. No raised eyebrows, no eye rolling. You are amongst chicken folks now.

Have you visited the Learning Center? It is the best place to start a chicken education. Incidentally treats should not make up more than 10% of their diet or they will not get the proper nourishment from their chick feed.
