Hello! We just started raising chickens early this year. We have a mix of several different kinds but most are Easter Eggers. Yesterday we got two turkeys. The neighbors are all excited about getting eggs and the neighborhood kids come over to check out the flock all the time. They get so excited, it is great fun to watch. The beginning of August, we started getting eggs. We have 26 chickens and so far we get about a dozen eggs a day. We are a retired Navy family, hence the name of our little operation, AcresAway. I guess you can take a man out of the Navy but you can't take the Navy out of the man. We bought our little house and farm 2 years ago and have been working on it ever since. I have my own pet sitting business and my husband still works for the government. We plan to add goats next year and maybe try some ducks. We have a large garden and are experimenting with canning and freezing our food.
