Hi all; I am very happy to join this forum and learn more about backyard chickens. Here are my answers to the intro questions:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes. My daughter's have been asking for chickens and ducks for several years now. We live in "the country" outside Ann Arbor, Michigan and have a lot that is well suited for chickens. We bought our hens/ducks from Tractor Supply 8 weeks ago and I built them a coop/run/yard to suit.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Ten, and two ducks.
(3) What breeds do you have? All I know is what was written on the bin at Tractor Supply! (5) Rhode Island Red hens and (5) ISA Brown pullets. Five are brown and five are white.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? They are very interesting to watch. I am also looking forward to getting eggs.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Adventure motorcycling, solar energy
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am VP of product engineering for a major auto supplier. We have six kids with only the youngest three girls still at home.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I learn a lot about adventure motorcycles from a similar forum (ADVRider.com). Forums are an excellent place to learn from others and share your experiences.
