Hello Everyone! I am new to this group & new to raising chickens. I am from Mississippi. Currently, I am raising: Mohawk Rhode Island Reds, Mottled Black Splash Orpingtons, EEs, Ameraucanas, Polish, Wyandotte, 4 bantam roosters & 1 rooster that I have no idea what he is...not even sure if he's a he. My husband & I share this love of our chickens. We hope to add to our flocks since we presently do not have enough pullets for the roosters. They are all young but in 2 or 3 months, we will have to even out the hen to rooster ratio. I am having a terrible time finding good Mohawk Rhode Island Reds so if anyone can help with information on where to purchase them, please let me know. I look forward to being a part of this group.

Feel free to post pictures of your rooster in question on the "What breed and gender is this?" forum to see if anyone can answer those questions for you.

As far as finding more chickens, you may want to post on your state's thread to see if someone near you has what you are looking for. Otherwise, once you have 20 posts, you can also post on the "buy/sell/trade" forum to see if you can locate any there.

Thank you so much. I will try to get a picture of my mystery bird to the "What breed & gender is this?" forum. It would be nice to know about him/her. This bird was given to us when it was about 3 weeks old. The other birds had pecked all the feathers from its neck & back. It was a sad looking little thing but we now have a beautiful bird. We just don't know what breed & truthfully, I'm not at all sure it's a rooster though many think that is the correct gender. At the rate I'm going, I should have 20 posts in no time. Everyone is being so kind & so helpful.

The state thread and the buy-sell-trade forums are good for finding birds. Also, right now there is a breed focus on RIR's you might want to check out...maybe someone following that thread can point you toward a breeder:

I have already posted a message on the state forum. I also posted to the Mohawk or Heritage Rhode Island Red forum. I'm not sure, at this moment, which it is called. I will check the link you posted just in case it is a different one. Thank you so much for suggesting it.
 
Thank you, everyone, for the warm welcome. I apologize for being so late in replying but my computer has been in the shop. Just got it back late this afternoon. I look forward to being a part of this group.
