Hello everyone,

This is my second time posting this. Seems my first post is somewhere in the interwebs. If this posts twice, I apologize. To follow the suggested questions, I'll list my answers below.

Me, my wife, and daughter (16 months old) are very very new to raising chickens. we have 8 chicks in our little family and we are getting ready to move them into the coop (which I still have not completely finished)

The breeds I am not real good with so please excuse my misspellings. We have 2 Buff Orphingtons, 2 barred sex link, 3 Ameracuanas, and one I can't remember, we call her Roxie that's all I know.

I found this site through the tons of googling I've done on raising chickens. This site along with all the forum posters are a treasure trove of information to newbies like me. Thank you!!!

We just bought a house on a 13 acre farm, so my hobbies have pretty much just included taking care of the house and getting it in the shape that we want. But when I'm not chasing small chickens around the backyard, I am into woodworking although at a very basic and hobby level. Although I've done some neat stuff on my wood lathe.

Since, I've already told you about my family I'll move onto other pets. We have two pups. A toy poodle and a Westie. They are awesome, but they are not real thrilled with the new chicks. I work in the space industry where I fly satellites for the military. Sounds a lot cooler than it really is, but since I retired from the Air Force I had to rely on what I knew. Matter of fact, that is how I ended up in New Mexico.

I really look forward to getting to know some of you chicken experts. Seriously, thank you for the information you have already shared with me!!!.

I just answered your other post. That happens a lot. You hit submit and nothing happens. So you do it again and then you end up with two posts (sometimes 3). I've had it happen many times myself. Of course I don't especially care for computers - and apparently they feeling is mutual. My son is a programmer and my brother systems security analyst (think he made up that title.

Thank you for an interesting introduction, I enjoyed reading it! Especially that you have chickens AND a Westie...that's my favorite breed of dog (I had one for 14 years and she was the best).

It sounds like you keep busy and are enjoying things.

Nice to have you here!

Yes, My Westie, named Maia, is awesome. She has so much attitude with my wife it's hilarious, but she is my girl. She would go anywhere with me, but I now have to share her with our daughter which I love doing. No matter how rough my daughter is, no matter how much she pulls her hair, or no matter how much my daughter grabs her by the tale she never growls or shows any sign of aggression. She simply whines and we come running. Love that little girl, well both of them really. Thanks for commenting!

Not to hijack your intro thread, but your comments about Maia bring back some wonderful memories of my girl, Trixie. She was so smart but always acted like a puppy and stayed so active right up until the end. Very sweet tempered girl and a lot of company. Thanks for giving me a chance to brag about my girl...Westies, got to love them!
