Hi, I've been looking at this site for quite a long time, finally decided to join. The wife and I have had chickens before but always battled foxes, racoons, and then finally a bear ended our chicken keeping effort. So we built a new house in a different location on our property and so I decided it was time to try again. So we got 15 chicks of the colored egg laying breeds and they're a little over a month old now and I'm in the process of building the fort knox of coops. The coop is built and the chicks are inside and secure and just today we're putting the 1/2x1" welded wire on the run and then before the chicks can go outside the electric wire will go on. The bear (and others) will not win this time! And the chicks are definitely ready to go out!
I've browsed this site many times for information and I hope to be able to contribute if I can.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Electric fencing and 1/2" hardware cloth securing my setup has served well to deter the local momma bear and the rest of the chicken eaters around these parts.
