I got my chicks two months ago, but had been lurking on this site for about 3 years before I finally did it.

Married with kids and a dog who is afraid of chickens.
 
Welcome to Backyard chickens. I can tell you that a dog that is afraid of chickens is the best kind. Many new members say their dog or cat, killed their entire flock.
You may also want to post on your state thread, I've heard there are threads for both Northern & Southern California, possibly other regions as well.

Glad you could join the flock! Many of us were lurkers before joining up, I certainly was one too!
That's a lovely mix of birds yin have there. I hope you are enjoying your new adventures. Keeping chickens is a fantastic and very rewarding hobby.
