Just trying to get started... have been really happy reading all the information here on BYC and trying to learn from everyone's experience. After reading about coops in the forum, I recruited my husband and we decided to build our own coop and take it from there. Thinking of a small flock 3-4.

Chicken addiction strikes hard & fast. Honestly it is better to build larger than you think you will need. It will save you the task of building a second coop or an addition to the first one.

After you get your 3-4 birds, you will discover a lot more "must have breeds," You will also fall in love with your chickens and wonder why you waited so long to have them.

Thank you so much! Will keep this in mind as we move forward. I haven't stopped looking up information since we made the decision...can definitely see how it can be addictive.

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. Sound advice from D/Diva.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

Welcome!

As you have already received some good links and advice I will just wish you all the best and good luck with the flock when they arrive.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
