As my monikor indicates, I have chickens, dogs and ducks on our little piece of Oregon Country.
We keep an average of 40 laying hens, usually R. Reds and B. Rocks but have dabbled in several other breeds such as Black Sex Link, Buff Orpingtons, Araucana. We added ducks to the mix last year, hoping to try duck eggs, but all 9 ducklings ended up being drakes, thus no eggs. Their numbers have declined to just 4 this morning, as a Great Horned Owl has developed a taste for domestic duck over the last few months.
Looking forward to learning a thing or three about chickens from the group here.
Regards,
Bill
