Hello fellow chicken enthusiasts,

I have been lurking through the forum for the past few months, but decided it was time to introduce myself and become a member.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I was raised around chickens as a kid and participated in showing them in 4-H. However, this is my first time raising them as an adult on my own.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We got 4 chicks as day olds back in December 2013, sadly 1 did not make it.

(3) What breeds do you have? We have 2 beautiful Easter Eggers and 1 barred rock.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Browsing the internet.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Kayaking, baking, and gardening.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I share my home with my partner and two bernese mountain dogs. I work as a veterinary technician in an animal hospital.

So glad to be here and have access to the wealth of knowledge that the members in this board provide.

On a side note, we are looking to add to our flock and are particularly interested in Swedish Flower Hens, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, or Blue / Jubilee Orpington. If anyone knows where I may be able to get chicks, pullets, or young hens of these varieties locally.. that would be awesome!! I cannot order from hatcheries since I am only seeking to buy 1 or 2. I would prefer to get from a local breeder.

Your best bet would be to go to "where am I, where are you." in the social forum. Then you can find your state thread and post your questions there. Hopefully you will find someone near you that has the breeds you are seeking - so you don't have to have birds shipped.

Thank you everyone for the wondering welcoming messages and also for pointing my in the right direction for my quest in locating some new birds to add to my flock. I've been slowly making my way through the Oregon thread to find out new leads on who may have the breeds I'm searching for.

welcome! I'm new too. Left my heart in Or-y-gun last fall and am trying to learn to be a southern gal. Having chicks is helping my kiddos adjust to a new culture in the south.
