I like to buy local as much as possible. I buy my feed out of Fort Collins. The old Ranch-Way now owned by Hubbard. Not "local" for you but much closer than anything milled and trucked in from 4 states over. The biggest thing to watch is mill dates. With only 4 hens, a 50# bag will last about 6 weeks. If you're not carful, it could be 6 months old by the time you finish the bag. You are probably very limited with what is available. Start by checking in at the local feed store and see what brands they carry.
For bedding, I repurpose as much as possible. Leaves, wood chips, pine needles or old hay. If I buy anything it tends to be straw. When the chickens are done with it, it gets a third life in the garden

Hello everybody! Super excited to be a part of the chicken life😁
If anyone has any recommendations on their favorite daily feed and bedding for their coops, it would be much appreciated!
:welcome :frow Everyone is different and most have different ways of doing thing. My recommendation is whatever works best for you. I have some coops with wood floors in which I use pine shaving in. I have other coops with just the ground as the floors which I don't put anything in but a little scratch in now and then so the birds will scratch around. I use an All Flock or Flock Raiser feed. That way I can feed all of the birds the same feed for the different ages of birds. Good luck and have fun...
