I found this site this morning because my 2 year old Sue- she is my avatar pic- showed signs of peritonitis. I read the entire thread about Ivy and am currently sitting, crying with Sue in my lap resting for now. Gave her a warm soak and felt in her vent for an egg- nothing. She ate a few grapes and tomato pieces but refused her bread and milk her favorites. She was fine yesterday but when I went to feed her this am she couldn't stand.
She laid 270 eggs her first year then stopped alltogether last year. We moved in Dec. 2011 and she began laying rubber eggs then something must have spooked her in her coop and she never went in it again and stopped laying even rubber eggs. She has always been active and never turned down food. We got two Ameraucanas and two Australorps in march and she didn't seem to mind them. I am so upset to think this is a death sentence- but it is what it is. I will make her comfortable and see how it goes. Texas has been brutal heat wise for my ladies and the Australorps and the Ameraucanas are not laying yet as they should be. My new 4 are active and healthy but I am worried about them this summer. I am the proud mother of two human girls, a 4 year old female Rott/Lab mix, 3 female cats, and a new male kitten who was abandoned at 3 days old and is now a very active 5 month old and a betta my youngest one always overfeeds so he got moved out of her room to the bathroom. He isn't doing too well right now either. I hope Sue doesn't suffer and I hope to meet some new friends by joining this community. Sue was only a few months old when she got pox and I scrubbed her wattles and she was never affected by it- always a strong healthly girl. I can't imagine how bad she must feel. Sorry this seems to ramble on, just trying to let you all know about me and my whole flock. Hello everyone.
