Good Morning
frow.gif

We bought 12 chicks in March and are enjoying every minute of our 11 Hens and one Rooster. We built our own coop with a run in the fenced backyard. Our hens are starting to lay eggs and the rooster is breeding them all the time. We are new to the chicken world but are learning so much and our three kids are loving it.

Welcome to BYC from California wine country in the Western Sierra Foothills! :frow

Aren't chickens amazing? I never thought they'd have their own, unique personalities until I started keeping a flock. I'm glad you have a rooster - they make flock dynamics so interesting. I think the Rooster Wing Dip Circle Dance of Love is so fun to watch.

And chicks with Momma hens..... Absolutely adorable. Hope you and your kids are able to witness that some day.

I think for sure we will try to hatch some chicks one day. I guess as soon as we are confident enough. We absolutely enjoy watching them and have named most of them with personality names. Some are not named which is ok too. We have recently had to clip their wings due to trying to jump over the neighbors fence and socialize with their doggies. But they seem to still get the wind under them and jump the fence. Almost wonder if they need both wings trimmed. idk what we will figure out lol

Yeah that might be too. As long as they stay out of neighbors fence they are ok. I think a lot of it is boredom.
