My family just moved to the Dallas, TX area on a small ranch. We’re settling in and adding poultry left and right! I’m very much enjoying all the information and adorable pictures here!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We had chickens several years ago when we lived in NC, a couple job moves later we’re (šŸ¤žšŸ») at our forever home.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
17 chicks, 5 ducklings, and 15 poults on the way
(3) What breeds do you have?
The chicks are an ornamental layer mix from McMurray, plus 2 Cochin Roos, and a mystery bird. So far 5 are definitely polish, and one gold laced Wyandotte. Waiting on feathering for the others! The ducklings are from TSC, and they had no idea what they were. My guess is fawn runners. The poults will be a heritage mix - 5 each of red bourbon, Royal Palm, and slate. Trying to decide which one we want to focus on.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
My husband will say fresh eggs and bug control. That’s why we got them 10 years ago, but I love watching them And hanging out with them is great therapy.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Paper crafting, fitness.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
2 daughters, freshman in college and sophomore in high school. 4 dogs- 2 english bulldogs, an English mastiff and a basset hound. 3 barn kitties, 4 longhorns. I’m a stay home mom, husband is in IT.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Have know about since our first flock- found great information on building our first coop. Joined now as we’re getting going again and the template of questions made it way less awkward for me than just jumping in.

It is good to have chickens when the kids go to college! It gives you something to do with the free time LOL!

In our first ever McMurray order, we received a partridge Cochin roo as our mystery chick. He was amazing! My youngest named him Peck and we all loved that boy! So we knew that’s what we wanted as our rooster this time aroundšŸ’•
Mine is a Partridge Cochin hamster/ I mean Rooster. :gig :love He's a great Roo too.
