Hey everyone! My name is Garret Trezona. This is my first time joining the BYC website/forum. My family and I are first time chicken owners. We recently adopted 3 Silkie hens and 1 silkie Rooster. Now I am no means an expert on the different breeds, that was just what I was told they were. I will post some pictures.

We live on 3/4's of an acre out in the Redlands in Homestead, Fl. I have an old fenced in area that is about 12' x 12' that was used for pool equipment storage that we are converting into a home for our chickens. I am trying to make it the best possible living area for them. I was told by other family members who also have chickens that we should wait 1-2 weeks before letting them roam our fenced in yard throughout the day so that is what we are doing.

Any advice at all is greatly appreciated. We are also doing as much research that we can.

Here are a couple pictures of them. Please let me know what you think!

You can let them roam as quickly as you want, a mama hen wouldn't wait.

I'm scared to death of free ranging though lol so I built mine an enclosed play pen. Best of luck and welcome to the site :)

I could be wrong but the big rooster looks like a silky mix - the black ones look like non-bearded silkies You could post your photos on the "Silkie Thread" (put that in search box) , they are real silkie people there who should be able to critique your birds.

Thanks you! That is exactly what I just did. I will wait to see what the Silkie experts say lol.
