Hello everyone! My name is Aric. I recently purchased, was approved for by my City Council, to raise some hens.

My girls have arrived and they are just adorable! I am about a week in and I am loving it. I got them as chicks, there are four Rhode Island Reds and Two Red sex links.

I have done a lot of research on the RIR, but don’t know much about the sex links.

Are there any tips, tricks and techniques I should be aware of in the coming weeks to ensure I raise a healthy backyard flock?

Thanks in advance! Oh, a little bit about me - I am a librarian and adjunct instructor and this is my first crack at raising chickens.

Hello, Aric, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Make sure the brooder is warm only on one end and cool at the other where the food and water are.
Check about twice a day for pasty butt and take care of that immediately.
Do you have your coop and run all set and ready to go?
