I was raised on a farm in South Dakota back in the day when every farm had a flock for eggs. We also bought 50 to 75 chicks every spring to raise for slaughter. I have worked as a commercial beekeeper, grower on a mushroom farm, and a production supervisor at a large greenhouse. Currently I am a live nursery specialist at Lowe's. I have a large back yard in town and plan to add a small coop with a run for 6 to 10 chickens. I joined here as it seems an excellent source of information. I already raise red worms and soldier flies. Hopefully I can incorporate them along with garden scraps to supplement chicken feed. My wife and I are big on repurposing and reusing. I look forward learning from you and thank you in advance.

Welcome to Backyardchickens.com aka BYC! :frow
We are glad you joined our flock.
Building a coop out of repurposed wood is the only way to build one ,imo.
I bet you could find some free good wood that they throw out at work. If not you wouldn't believe how many throw away/give away under the free section on craigslist.

Thanks. I am old hand at craigslist with numerous garden and patio paver projects. I have been accused of being a packrat. I think I already have most or all the materials needed for the coup. It will even have new double glazed windows that I got for almost nothing. The run will be 6 foot kennel panels I found on craigslist. I am mainly looking for ideas on how to put everything together in the most efficient manner. I will try to post pictures but I am not very computer literate. I always tell people that my favorite computer has an eraser on the end. I appreciate all the friendly input.
