Hi everyone! We got our first chickens last September. From those chicks we have 5 hens: 3 Easter Eggers and 2 bantam porcelain Belgian D'Uccles. We've also adopted and then rehomed 2 silkies when one turned out to be a roo.
(They started free ranging a little bit recently with our cicada invasion)
About 4 weeks ago, we got 6 chicks from a local hatchery:
1 Ameraucana
1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
1 Barred Rock
1 Buff Orpington
2 Niederrheiners
(They are just waiting for the brooder to be cleaned here)
Unfortunately it looks like both Niederrheiners are probably cockerels, so we will have to rehome.
We built a pretty cool integrated coop and run as a family project last summer, and we've had so much fun with that and since with the chickens. My daughter is our chicken whisperer and caring for the flock has been rewarding for her in self confidence and general skills building (she's 12).
We also have a cat, a puppy, and a couple of hamsters.
