Hello all!

My family have recently submitted a order for 5 hens (three egg layers and two silkies) and are contemplating either constructing our own coop or possibly purchasing one. I'm so excited to start this new obsession!! I love this website also! Everyone is so friendly and knowledgable! It really is nice to share this experience with you all!

Aloha,
April and fam bam

Aloha and welcome to Backyard chickens April. So glad you joined the flock. Sometimes you can find people who have to move and want to sell or give away their coop.
Often they include their chickens in deal. I don't know if you have "Craig's List " in Hawaii, but, that is usually a good place to find low cost coops, fencing materials, or dog runs that can be a basis for chickens runs. Good luck to you. Hope you will post photos when your birds arrive.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I started with a prebuilt coop just to get going. But the chickens hated it, I hated it and everybody got frost bite! LOL So eventually we build a larger more chicken friendly coop and now we are all happy! But it never hurts to get a jump start on keeping your new flock with a prebuilt.

Which ever you choose, enjoy this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!

Does anyone have thoughts abt flooring for a coop on Maui? I'm trying to decide between an open wire bottom design or wooden board with linoleum on top. The coop will have plenty of ventilation so I'm not concerned about that.
