(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Newish… I got our first batch 3 years ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Ohhh this is a (long story) answer. Currently have 11 laying big girl hens. I wanted to add 4 chicks this spring but have ended up getting 23 chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?

barred rock, bluebells, Rhode Island reds, cinnamon queen, starlight green egger, Wyandotte, Americana, Brahmas, buff O, chocolate O, iso brown, salmon flavorelles, delawares, lavender olive egger, speckled Sussex …..

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I love the reward of a happy hen equals eggs. You put into them and they give back an actual need, food. I also love watching them forest forage. I love their little silly behaviors and tendencies and the rhythm of their daily life.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Mothering, birth work, gardening, cooking, church, yoga, being outside in nature with my kids and wonderful hubs.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Just chickens for us. I have 3 kids under 5, they are awesome. I would love more babies and one day a full fledge homestead with acres, cows, pigs, large garden. For now our 1.5 acres does well for our garden and chickens.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D google

Ive relied on this community for help with various chicken questions. This is my go-to for answers. I decided to join when I had some questions about ID’ing a chick.
