Hello. New to the whole chicken thing. Bought 6 chicks back in March, built a coop with a run and just had our first eggs this week! I like variety so my flock consists of a RIR, a buff Orpington, a barred rock, a black sexlink, a black Australorp and a Sagitta. The Sagitta seems to be the only one laying right now but hopefully the others will be quick to follow suit.

Drumstick- my Sagitta looks like a new Hampshire red. She's a really cool bird. Very curious and friendly. Matured very quickly, eggs at 16 weeks or so.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Assuming they're pullets and not cockerels, your others will begin laying soon and you will get loads of eggs with that mix of breeds. Australorps are excellent layers, and Black Sex Links are very friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and my Black Sex Links have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 large, brown eggs per year. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting loads of eggs.

Thank you. I think the BSL is next to start. She's been exhibiting some of the same behaviors that the sagittabwasbeight before she started laying. We are excited about all the eggs.
