Hello, My name is Erica and I am just getting into keeping chickens. I've ordered 8 pullets and I am working on getting a coop together for when they arrive. It needs to be a mobile coop because I don't have 150' in every direction for the required building setback in my area. We are on 1.5 acres but our lot is diamond shaped and I don't want the coop right next to our pool.

I am planning to put it on a 4x8 trailer with an open bottom. We are in Waxhaw, NC so hot humid summers and mildish winters. Would love to know how other coops with mesh flooring works. I'm debating adding a removable floor for winter time. Would love advice.

I ordered 2 of each - Black Australorps, Rhode Island Reds, Blues and Golden Laced Wyandottes. I'm looking to get into chicken keeping for organic eggs, fertilizer, and farm pets. I also took up gardening in 2020 when I found out I had melanoma...hence the member name. Most of my gardening is in the early morning when it is low UV. The melanomas have been removed but I am trying to eat better overall and take better care of my health.

Our family is just my husband, myself and our house cat Olive. We do have lots of deer that venture onto our property too, but they aren't mine.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

You picked some nice breeds! Love Australorps, I'm pretty partial to them. :) Mesh flooring is hard in their foot pads, so I'd keep them on the dirt. I am so sorry you were diagnosed with Melenoma, do take care of yourself. :hugs Skin Cancer is nothing to ignore.

Welcome to our community!
