Hi, my name is Shannon, and I live in Woodinville, WA. This is my first post here!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am new to chickens! I got my first 5 hens on Saturday (the 18th) and just added two more today.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Seven hens.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Barred Rock
Buff Orpington
Americauna
Black Australorp
Red Star
Black Sex Link
Blue Sex Link

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

I was trying to find out about the Blue Sex Link. I picked her out because she was pretty...

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I collect art glass. (And I guess now I collect hens.)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I'm married with three children, and I stay home with them. Their ages are 9, 5, and 3. I've been homeschooling so far, but my 9yo is starting school in the fall.

I'm really excited about the hens! I'm trying to buy fewer and fewer things at the grocery store, if you know what I mean. In my opinion the industrialization of food has degraded the quality, and our health suffers for it (not to mention the taste). I also try to avoid contributing to the suffering of animals, which to me means avoiding factory farmed animal products.

Hello and welcome to BYC!

I've never heard of a "blue" sex link before. Would love a pic.

So glad you are here.

1. I'm not exactly new to chickens, but still can learn some stuff about them. My first chicken I raised was, I think, in 2007.

2. I have too many to count. I have laying stock, and then my house "personnals" which would be 7.

3. I have Silkies, production hens, rhode Island Reds, Welsumer, Barred Rock/dominique (we got them as "barred chicks"), an ameraucana, australorp, New hampshire red. but I did have a orpington before, and want one again.

4. I found this place looking for supplies and again while looking for chicken coop plans.

I've never heard of a Blue Sex Link...? What is it?

5. I have a small hobbie farm, and I help with my step-family's farm. I show my prized Saanen, and now Saanens and I and also an art lover. I go to horse shows whenever I can.

6.I live in PA with my family. At the moment we aren't suffering much from the economy. I try to keep waste down to a limit. We buy our feed from a local market, or if we can't get to it from Tractor supplies. I only use brands I trust.

I use BYC to learn more, and help others that need my help. If you ever have a question don't be afraid to ask.. have fun, and hope to talk to you later!

Hi Shannon,

I think we've traded a couple of emails recently. Welcome Aboard from Granite Falls!

Do you mind if I ask who told you that was a Blue Sex-link? It looks to me like you've got an Easter Egger.

Btw, there is a "Washingtonians" thread on here. Pop on over and introduce yourself there too!

God Bless,
