Hi, my name is Shannon, and I live in Woodinville, WA. This is my first post here!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens! I got my first 5 hens on Saturday (the 18th) and just added two more today.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Seven hens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Barred Rock
Buff Orpington
Americauna
Black Australorp
Red Star
Black Sex Link
Blue Sex Link
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I was trying to find out about the Blue Sex Link. I picked her out because she was pretty...
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I collect art glass. (And I guess now I collect hens.)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm married with three children, and I stay home with them. Their ages are 9, 5, and 3. I've been homeschooling so far, but my 9yo is starting school in the fall.
I'm really excited about the hens! I'm trying to buy fewer and fewer things at the grocery store, if you know what I mean. In my opinion the industrialization of food has degraded the quality, and our health suffers for it (not to mention the taste). I also try to avoid contributing to the suffering of animals, which to me means avoiding factory farmed animal products.
