Hi all, I am a fairly new member in the SF Bay Area. I am a wife to a hard working husband and a mom to two crazy boys (4 and 5 years old). Right now I am a SAHM but I have been an embalmer and funeral director for 12 years and expect to go back to it once the boys are in school full-time. I've already posted topics/questions about my ladies and have received so many helpful replies. BYC has saved me a few times from excessive worries. I cannot believe how friendly and helpful everyone is!!
Anyway, I have had chickens for about 6 months now. I have 5 (used to have 6 until one started crowing so I gave him to a good home where he is the only roo to 22 hens!). They are a Rhode Island Red (Lucinda), a Delaware (Barbara Mandrell), a Black Australorp (Loretta), a Leghorn (Dolly) and a Golden Laced Wyandotte (Patsy). I wish I had 3 more! They are all laying and I can't tell you how much enjoyment the whole family has gotten from them not to mention the delicious eggs.
I found BYC when I was researching information before we got the chickens and I love, love, love it. We already had a big fenced in dog run in the backyard of the house we just purchased so my husband simply fortified it to keep out other critters and put a roof on it. We bought a coop off of Craigslist and put it inside and wahlah, instant chicken paradise! BYC has proven to be a wonderful sight and sooooo helpful.
I look forward to many years of happy chicken raising and info from BYC.
