Hello!!!
My name is Beth and I live in Dover, Delaware. I have wanted chickens for years and thought having a small flock would be impossible due to my HOA restrictions. Turns out, you can have a flock of 25 or smaller and the HOA's can't do a thing about it

I am sooooooo excited to be here and very excited to get started on this journey!!!

I think I'm going to start with a very small flock...maybe 3-5? And I think I would like to build sort of a chicken mobile home, so I can move them around the yard so they always have fresh grass and bugs to eat

Good morning Beth, welcome to BYC!

Excellent news on being able to have so many birds

I think that's something to be excited about.

And yep, you're talking about a chicken tractor. Will you also have a coop where they can be secured at night (no one wants an predator encounter)?

Good luck to you and enjoy your chickens!

Hi :welcome Beth

Glad you could join the flock! How exciting for you to be getting started on your chicken adventure :celebrate I would certainly start with 5 as you may wish to add to only 3 once you make a start I'm sure you will want to add more it's always the case. The learning centre has some super artcles on getting started, here is the link > https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center
The coop section also has some great plans on ideas for coops https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coop_Designs

Wishing you the very best of luck with this new adventure, enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Sounds like you have a great set-up! If you have any questions, everyone here is willing to help.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined the flock!

Thank you so so much

I'll check out the articles and I'm going to start getting my set up together soon.

Yes, I'm going to have Coop but I have this idea of building a coop with skids so I can move it around. Anyone have a set up like that?

Beth, nice to meet you. Glad you joined the BYC flock. Yes, you are talking about chicken tractors. They do serve their purpose but, are easier targets for predators that can burrow under them or large enough to turn the unit over and have buffet style snacks. I feel in high predator areas and especially at night - chickens are best protected by a secure coop that is locked at night.
