Hello all-
My husband and I are raising our five-year old son on the same farm where I was raised, wanting to provide my son with the experience of rural living, living off the land and being self-sufficient. We are in our second year with chickens and absolutely love them and all their unique personalities. After the first twelve chickens in year one, we added another 24 birds around the farm in two separate flocks in year two. We also grow pecans so putting the nitrogen back in the soil is key as is the natural insect control! We have Leg-horn, Barnvelder, Orpington (buff and blue), Dominiques, Welsummer, Rhode Island Red, Red Cross, Barred Rock, Australorp, Penedesenca, Barred Rock and Black Copper Maran. I stumbled across BYC as I was researching chickens, breeds and their care. I value the knowledge, experience and stories found on this site. I look forward to learning more and sharing our experiences as we venture down this road with all our "girls".
