Hello! My name is Erin, and I have been caring for a flock of about 50 chickens for the past 7 years as caretakers on a small farm at a nature preserve.
The preserve is ending its chicken program sadly, so I am tasked with selling/rehoming most of the flock, and we plan to personally keep about 12-15 of our favorites.
Of those I have cared for, including purebred and mixes of these breeds: Black Austrolorp, Barred Rock, Americauna, Silver and Golden Laced Wyandottes, Rhode Island Red, Buff & Blue Orpington, Speckled Sussex, and bantam Cochin and Belgium d'Uccle.
Of those we are keeping, include our Blue Orpingtons (2 purebred, and 3 mixed), a silver-laced wyandotte mix hen, 2 cochin bantam hens (and 1 with four chicks she incubated), 2 belgium d'Uccle bantams, and a few of the other ladies - not sure yet, depends on buyer interest as we sell most of the flock. And, keeping our two roos.
I have been on your site before when looking for chicken advice. Great resource and community. My email has since changed so signing up again.
I am a school teacher, and love photography. I am a licensed wildlife rehabber, and help mainly reptiles. And, mother of two kids. We also have 2 rescued dogs and 2 rescued indoor cats.
