Hen Fen
In the Brooder
Hello everyone, here's a bit about my chicken story:
I fell in love with chickens as a middle schooler, and took complete responsibility of our family's laying flock by the time I was 14. My first ever chickens of my own were two quail antwerp belgian banty roos, one of which I showed in the county fair. Then ensued a whole suite of different banty varieties through high school. After settling down a bit to work on my PhD here in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) of Michigan, I now have a mixed flock once again, this time large breed egg layers (and two Russian Orloffs). The flock fluctuates between 10 and 20 birds throughout the year. The roos are a Buff Orpington and Russian Orloff, hens are a wide mix including Barred Rocks, Wyandottes, Welsummers, and various crosses. I'm really excited to be on BYC, as I've been getting advice from the forums for years; just now hoping to join in on the discussions!
