(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Iām fairly new to owning chickens and I started looking after chickens since early December 2020.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
At the moment I have 1 rooster and 11 hens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
The rooster is a Lavender Araucana whom Iāve adopted in February this year and the hens are a variety of Silkies x Bantams, Isa Browns and Wyandotte x Plymouth Rock chickens.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They are highly underestimated as some people just see them as a regular bird, but I think theyāre so interesting to watch seeing how they interact and behave with one another. Theyāre funny and smart animals that I love hanging around with. And of course, eggs!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I also own tropical fish which is sadly a very expensive hobby but I own three Tiger Oscar cichlids who are surprisingly very friendly (as theyāre own to be very aggressive) and I think they do remember my face because when I walk past the fish tank they swim and beg for food like crazy!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Iām from Australia and I currently live with my parents. I will be moving out soon with my partner when we find a nice farm house and hopefully own other animals in future along with my chickens
I also have a domestic long haired, ginger cat
who is highly food motivated and thankfully doesnāt attack my chickens. If anything heās scared of the chickens and always avoids them lol.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Iāve discovered this forum when I was researching on how to raise chickens and thought I join the community since I adore chickens and I generally always find the answers that I need here.
