Hello everyone!

I'm located in Pittsburgh, PA and am brand new to chickens. I'm currently preparing for my first 3 hens this summer (currently trying to decide between Ameraucanas, Salmon Faverolles, or an auto-sexing breed like Bielefelders and the best method to source chicks without getting a roo). I'm super excited for the girls to eat the ticks in my yard and give me compost and eggs in return :)

I've been a long time lurker on BYC and have been contemplating this for years. Everyone here has been so helpful so far, thanks so much for having me! Anyone else in the Pittsburgh area? Western PA?

Best,
Olivia

Thanks! And thanks for your sharing your experience with Biels on the other thread. it's super helpful to hear from experienced folks :)
No problem. If you decide to get this breed and have any question's later, just let me know.

Welcome to BYC! Thanks for joining.

The only breed I've ever owned out of the ones you've listed is the Ameraucana, which is a personal favorite of mine. I hear a lot of good things about the other breeds, too.

You can connect with some of the other PA folks in the Pennsylvania state thread.

Best of luck getting started!
