(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Hi all! My name is Lylybell and I am happy to be part of this community of chicken lovers! I am still fairly new to chicken raising as I got my first chicken late 2023. I currently have only 3 chickens and one rooster, but I plan to add to my flock this spring! I am also in the final stage of incubating a few chicken eggs as my previous rooster Ginger passed away recently and I wanted to carry on his legacy. Incubating is new to me so I’m also hoping to get help from this community. I have a Coronation Sussex Roo named Silvester, a white silkie named Alberta (she reminded me of Albery Einstein with her hair lol), a frizzle named Mrs. Frizzle (like the magic school bus), and the other I’m not sure her breed but her name is Henrietta. It looks like only one of the eggs I incubating might be successful as it’s still wiggling around in its shell, so I named it Milagro which means miracle in Spanish and really praying it survives! I love my chickens babies and enjoy all aspects of raising them including their cute little sounds, watching them attack their food, love how affectionate my silkie is, being able to give them food scraps which reduces waste and fertilizes my garden, etc. I love it all! Aside from my chickens I love to garden, love painting, listening to music while cooking and dancing around in my kitchen, and having fun. I also have a cat, husky, 2 poodles, a chihuahua and lovebird. My husband loves taking care of our fur babies also and has his little routine with our chickens in the morning. It’s really cute! I found out about BYC through Google trying to get advice on something related to my chickens. I have a question about the incubation process so that’s why I’m joining now, and when I looked back at other users questions it’s been a super helpful guide. Happy to be here!
A few pics of my feather babies, including Ginger my Buff Orpington too who sadly passed away a couple months ago.
