Tabor is a funny name but it's mine because Dan was taken. I've had poultry since I was a lad up till my teens. I've a dear fondness for ducks, thanks to a very protective pet Muscovy, Ronald ("heck, heck, heck) I had as a child. I may bore everyone here with my Ronald reminiscing. He was a good duck!
I've a pasture that I keep and manage cattle on for a neighbor, a large garden, sawmill, Woodworking business. I make toys.
I've recently discovered podcasts. And there are chicken podcasts! Whodda thunk! Forgive me, as I can never remember the ones I listen to, nor the hosts. Chicken tractors was the subject on one. That brought me to Google, which brought me here. I have a couple hay wagon running gears looking for jobs. I want to get some chickens and maybe a duck or few. Enough to entertain me, my nieces and nephews.
I like the idea of keeping them mobile to help with cleaning up ground (bug patrol/ control) but also have them protected (the best I can) from predators.
The last chickens (Rhode Island Reds)I had were free range, neighbors dogs found a way from their confinement and destroyed the flock. Not cool!
I will have many questions from building the chicken tractor to manageable fencing and protecting chickens from illness; as we are seeing Avian Flu moving closer to this area. Another bout! Ugh
I also hope to share many stories and memories. As you might can tell, I enjoy writing.
