We got the cornish cross as thats what everyone gets around town since it was our first time. And we really regret it, wish we would of gone with a dif breed. They are so pityful and dont act even close to our chickens they dont forage or even walk much, they dont even eat the grass. Were going to get sonething dif next year even though we get less meat it doesnt matter to us.

thanks for sharing.
I have been thinking about getting meat birds but just don't know if I really want to deal with them.

Yeah honestly, I don't regret doing it, I just regret the breed choice Because we were planning on processing around week 8, and now they are getting so big I dont think we'll be able wait that long. They can barely walk and support their weight. They barely walk to their water and food. Not what I thought it would be like. We thought they would act more like our laying hens We're going to research breeds this winter and find something that forages more and doesn't grow as quickly.

Some folks only leave food out for them for 12 hours, and then 12 hours without. They also make them walk farther to reach the feeders, so they get some exercise. If the growth is somewhat slowed - they don't fall apart so quickly.

I've read on BYC some even free range along with regular chickens and exhibit sweet personalities, which would make it harder to process them. But I guess they really are chickens inside if given the chance to show it.
