(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
This will be my second experience with chickens. Several years ago we had 6 chickens and a small miscommunication led to all but 1 not making it past 8 weeks. It was dark and my husband didn't tell me he had let the little darlings outside for the first time and I went to let our pup out to go potty.. and well you know the rest.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
At this moment we have none but there will be 15 coming the first week of May.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We will have Lavender Orpingtons, Buff Brahmas, and Olive Eggers. (I'd also really love to have some French Black Copper Marans, and Americanas.)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Eggs! And I think they're just neat little creatures.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a stay at home mom with 3 kids and a 1 year old great pyr. We've been homeschooling since covid. My kids love to be outdoors camping, fishing, hiking- if its outside they enjoy doing it. We have dreams of living on at least 10 acres one day. Complete with Highland cows, chickens, and a garden to allow us to source almost all of our food from our own homestead.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I was looking at different chicken coop ideas and came across this site. I thought it would be a great resource and community to get plugged into.
