I am new to chickens / I first got chickens June 3, 2024.
I have 6 chickens right now. What breeds do I have? 3 cinnamon queen hens, 1 cinnamon queen rooster, 1 RIR pullet, and 1 black, white, gray cockerel unknown breed. my favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens, i think would be the egg production and the feeling i will get taking care of them. Some of my other hobbies are raising Black Angus & Santa Gertrudis mix beef cattle. We are a family of 4 mom, daughter, son, dad. My wife is my along with the kids help with my hobbies. I have 2 blue/red heeler cattle working dogs as pets, I am a retired Marine, who was going stir crazy after retirement so I indulge in my hobbies. How did I find BYC, how long have I known about BYC, and what made me finally join our awesome community? Well i found a group on facebook and since I was new at chickens i decided to join, however on my very first post where i posted a video of my ailing pullet, your awesome community tore me to shreds with their rude and uncalled comments, now the comments were not all negative and bad some folks actually defended me and understood my side. However before I had a chance to review all the comments and reply to all of them, I got suspended from the group without not even a reach around or explanation as to why. So I googled backyard chickens and found this website and figured it was the same group as on facebook so decided to join to express my concerns that is all. So if someone would care to reply to my concern and unsuspend my facebook group account it would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Marco, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
We are not the same group that is on Facebook. Facebook is full of trolls and haters. That kind of thing is not tolerated here. This place is a true community where you can actually learn immensely without being laughed at and you can also foster real friendships.
 
Welcome Marco! I have found the BYC community welcoming and helpful. I cannot speak to FB as I have never and will never have an account. Due to my risk background I have refrained from joining most social media platforms. BYC has been one I have joined as the main topic is fowl. If you have a question please ask. There are a lot of very experienced and helpful fowl folk here.

I am sorry to hear you had a bad experience on Facebook. We are not at all related or connected with Facebook, BYC is a separate entity all together. We are a community that comes together to help one another, to learn and share. We don't attack, act condescending or make fun of anyone.
