My husband and I are getting ready to jump into raising backyard chickens as pets and egg layers. We usually "buy first, plan later" but this time are planning first which can be overwhelming. We're working on the coop and run now, and researching breeds. We plan to let them free range as much as possible but do have predators in our area so we'll see!

Hi we are new to chickens. We purchased a brooder bantum hen and six chicks yesterday. They were settled into their coop last night and all is well today. We have no idea if they are girls or boys. Time will tell. Hello to fellow chicken keepers.
