Hi Everybody,

I am part of a chicken co-op with 6 other families, we each care for the flock 1 day/week and the coop is in my large back yard. My young son is about to get a service dog from the Colorado Prison Dog program in Sterling, Colorado http://www.coloradoci.com/serviceproviders/puppy/index.html?training.

The program coordinators are happy to bring the two prospective dogs we're choosing between out to visit someone who has chickens in Sterling, Colorado where the dogs are being trained so they can see how the dog reacts to seeing chickens for the first time. Our coop here in Boulder, Colorado (3 hours drive away) is pretty bullet-proof but the chickens free range during the day in an area that is fenced but a dog could dig under if he really wanted to get at the chickens. It’s pretty urgent that we can see if the prospective dog seems nonchalant about chickens or has a strong prey instinct that kicks in, it’s usually pretty clear right away.

Can you think of any way to help me find a family or business with chickens in Sterling, CO that might be willing to let our case worker visit with a dog for a few minutes? I’ve searched for over an hour online & can’t find anything or anyone so far.

Warm regards,

Lorna

! Lots of Colorado chicken enthusiasts out there! Go to the Social Forum and under Where Am I? Where Are You? find the Colorado thread and post there! I wish you the best. The service dog program thing sounds so cool! I am a school guidance counselor and am getting my second therapy dog in two weeks!!! The dog I am getting "did a stretch" in a prison here in Kansas. Good luck to you!
