We are still trying to figure out if our small black one is a rooster or hen. It might be too early to tell but it is not growing feathers as fast as the others. So I'm worried something is wrong or if we got ourselves a rooster.

It is an English Orphington about 2 or 3 weeks old.

Welcome!

As Diva suggested, posting some pictures on the Breed & Gender Forum is your best bet for getting experienced gender opinions. This is the link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

Also, another 2-3 weeks before folks can be certain, they are still a tad young yet. They are super cute though!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

If you would like to share more pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
