(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Yes, I got my first baby chicks 3 days ago!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have three birds.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Black copper maran, cream legbar, and a lavender australorp

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Pinterest and google searches.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Refinishing old furniture, wood working, creating home decor.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share?

I live in Florida, I am brand new to chickens! I have two cats and a dog along with my three new baby chicks. I work in the medical field and spend all of my time outside of work tinkering in the garage with projects!

Hello Blatessa. Welcome to BYC! There is tons of info here and very good people to help you on your journey as a new chicken owner. :)

I don't know how much reading/research you've already done, but if you want to get the most out of BYC, I suggest you do the following:
  • Spend some time in the Learning Center
  • When you have specific questions, most of the time a quick search will come up with the answers.
  • If you don't find anything useful that way, post your question in an appropriate sub-forum. People here are very helpful and will answer your question even it has been asked 100 times before.
Enjoy your time here.

I have to ask...
Where on earth did you find lavender Australorp?
I adore my black Australorp hens and hope you get the same enjoyment from your lavender Australorp.

I would love to have some myself someday.
I found a farmer in Mayaka, Florida (30 minutes from me). He has been terrific through this entire process:) After I saw the Hens I knew I wanted one! The silver feathers are stunning.
