(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am totally new to chickens. I got the crazy idea to have some after reading about them on another board that sent me a link here. My peeps are about 4-6 weeks old by my best guess.... I picked them up on March 13th and they only had a couple feathers between them. This is my second attempt (stupid dog) at raising chicks for egg laying.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 6

(3) What breeds do you have? 3 each, Black Australorps and Americaunas (silver I think)

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? See above

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Hiking, wrenching on my cars and motorcycle, gardening, chicken herder, recreational target shooting.

I have a LOT of questions (yes I could buy a book, but I could just search or ask here.

Only pressing question is when should I shift the ratio of scratch to medicated feed? I'm at 50/50 now.... I know I have to do less and less scratch.... thanks,

from another Washingtonian!!!

Um, scratch should only be a treat, and not for young chicks? They should have started with medicated feed as their sole food source.....Scratch can be offered later when they are a few month old.

The feed store in Monroe told me to do a 50/50 mix with each at first. They seem to eat it happily....

So, should I go to like a 80/20 feed to scratch or something? They still have some fuzz on them.... ugh..

Snohomish county is great.
