Hi Everyone! I got my first fuzzy babies in April; I have 1 Buff Orpington, 2 Black Australorps, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte. Backyard Chickens has been a great resource! My chickens are now 10 weeks old and I have been loving each day as they grow so quickly and learn so fast. At this moment I'm going through the emotional turmoil that goest along with suspecting one RIR to be a roo, I'm sure I'll be posting something on that subject soon.
Cheers to All the Chicken Lovers!

Welcome to BYC and the wonderful world of chickens! I'm glad you could join the "flock".

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, post comments, or just chat about your chooks. We love talking chicken and we love seeing pictures too.

Best of luck with your new chicks!

You wouldn't be the first to suffer through the emotion turmoil of uncovering a "stealth" rooster. I think the majority of folks coming on to this site, have had the same misfortune. Sometimes a seller/breeder will take them back in exchange for female. Generally roosters are not easy to rehome - there is a glut of them on the market due to HOA or town restrictions or some are just too aggressive to keep.

Your birds are certainly old enough to sex. You may want to post his(and others) photos at "what breed or gender is this."

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have a nice mix of breeds. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them as well as our Buff Orpingtons), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
