Hi. I've had chickens for about 7 years. First two hens came with the house. Buff Orpingtons. One became one of my best friends (see avatar). Her name was Chookie. Shortly after moving to our cabin, one of my dogs scared her by chasing her. Chookie played dead. I picked her up and sat in the truck for about 30 minutes with her, cooing to her and caressing her back. I let her go, and after that, she began following me around. The rest is history.

Right now, we have about 25 chickens. New chicks just hatched, so not sure.
We have Silkies, and a plethora of different banties and others. The Silkies were supposed t be banties, too, but WROOOONG...

One of our chickens is FEATHERLESS. His name is Kojak. He's about 3 months old right now.
Here he is with one of his nestmates.

I wrote to a geneticist in Israel, who is attempting to start a breed based on these chickens. Here is his contact info. I'm sure he'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has one. We're not set up to do selective breeding, but maybe y'all are, out there. Be warned; it's principally for meat production (although eggs, too!). I'm just including this in case it's of interest. They ain't gettin' their hands on Kojak! :)

Welcome to BYC!!! First of all, you've made a good and wise decision to join this website. Many members are so caring and professional that it saved many of my poultry and waterfowls. Kojak is so cute, do you know why he is featherless haha? As I am typing this, my buff orpington chicks are pipping internally and hatching tomorrow I think hopefully...

Anyway, welcome again and have a great day!

Looks like you did just fine to me! Welcome to BYC....can't offer any advice on Kojak, because that's a totally new on one me! He might do well in Texas, but not so much in Northwestern Wyoming! Glad to have you!

Welcome!

I was subscribed to a thread where the OP had hatched a few bald chicks but do you think I can find it!

I tried searching for it but came up with many bald chicken threads which you might want to skim through.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

There is a member on BYC I believe he just calls himself "Kev -" but he has featherless chickens as his avatar and I am fairly certain he raises them. I do believe he is in USA.
