Hello! My name is Nyaiosh! I grew up on a farm in Utah until I was about 8 years old. Then I moved to Southern California and left the farm life behind. Now I am in my 30s and my daughter is turning 10 this month and my son is 11. As a single parent I decided I wanted them to know the joy that I had growing up. Though I don't live on a farm, I do have a big enough backyard to own chickens. On saturday the 2nd of May we hatched 5 Olive Eggers and 3 Lavender Orpingtons. This crazy pandemic made it easier to go through the process as I am able to be at home during this time. I am a full time Vet Tech student as well with dreams of owning a farm some day. Being able to show my babies the amazing process of life has been so awesome. Of course not all the chickens survived and that too was a learning experience. I found this community when I was learning about incubation and some of the things that could go wrong. I ended up with one of my chickens being a "sticky chick" who also wasn't able to stand, and passed away after two days. All of this made me realize that I could use some support during this unknown time. Yes, I know I have support from the Vets at school and all my amazing professors, but most of them don't work with farm animals, most are domesticated or just focused on Horses and cows. I love chickens, and birds in general. They have always been a part of my life. From Chickens, parakeets, finches to even an African Gray Parrot. That is why I have joined this amazing Community and I can't wait to see what it has to offer.

And just some other fun things about me! I used to work in the gaming industry for 13 years, I LOVE makeup and have a makeup instagram on the side. I feel that there is nothing wrong with being girly and loving to get dirty.

Note* I have attached a Photo of two of my babies: Alpha Beech and Chikadee.

Hello, Nyaiosh, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
There most certainly is nothing wrong with being girly and loving to get dirty! I once installed a water heater in a summer dress.

That is amazing! I changed my oil once in a skirt. Where I live it is a bit of a foreign concept, but after 35 years I am finally saying *** it and getting over that concept. So here I am starting my backyard flock and doing things my way. I love my birds already and can't wait to watch them grow. I even have been reading that they can be leash trained which sounds like a really fun concept.
