Hi, All -

I've had a small flock of chickens in my yard for over twenty years - currently the flock consists of 7 hens (~4 years old and stepping down) and an old, but still spy rooster named Dr. Harry. I am raising a new group of pullets (now 6 weeks old) in the basement and trying to get them out into an adjunct coop/run as soon as the weather breaks.

The adjunct coop I'll use for them is too small for me to hook up a light bulb heater so I purchased a Cozy Coop flat panel one that is designed to be hung from the coop wall. It seems very hot to me, even at the lower setting. The manufacturer insisted on the phone that even though it was too hot for me to touch the chickens would be fine. Does anybody have experience with this type of heater? I won't need to use it for long (presuming it will finally warm up and stop raining) but don't want to create a hazzard.

Thanks,

M
