New member saying “Hi!”

Thanks for the welcome, All. And thank you, JanieDoe and DobieLover for the advice on putting the brooder right into the coop. I really like that idea and I didn’t know that was an option because I thought new flocks had to be quarantined? I did pay for the extra “Marek’s vaccination” option that the hatchery offered. It would be great to be able to stick the brooder in the coop though - would certainly be nice to avoid the dust storm in my house!

I’m expecting delivery in a couple of months and meanwhile will look into some alternative brooder set-up options.

Thanks again

You don't need to quarantine chicks under 6 weeks of age. Older birds should be quarantined.
I use a mama heating pad (mhp) but a brooder plate is a good option. It is much safer than lamps, and closer to natural. The chicks can adapt to the weather so much faster.
