(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am new to chickens, however, my boyfriend has had over 30 in his life. We are starting a new flock and got this new crew in March 2022.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We have 5 pullets and 1 cockerel.

(3) What breeds do you have? We decided to go with a mix. We have: 1 prairie bluebell egger (I've been calling her Bluey), 1 silver laced polish (Tiny Turner), 1 buff orpington (calling her Buffy, super original, I know), 1 black australorp (I think her name is going to be Cluck in honor of my grandma) and 2 blue laced silver wyandottes (one of them is a cockerel, still don't have a name for his sister).

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I'm looking forward to having fresh eggs and interacting with a new species of animal! Can't wait to see their personalities grow.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I knit and work on house projects with my boyfriend. I also volunteer for a local TNR organization in my county. I've fostered kittens and now help out at their new building in their "Cats in Transition" room. My boyfriend used to have a market garden business and is teaching me about homesteading and gardening.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My boyfriend has 50/50 custody of his 3 kids, they are 13, 11 and almost 5. We have 2 cats (they were foster failures) and I've grown up with a myriad of animals my entire life (dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, hedgehog, ferret, etc.). I love animals.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? Found you on google!

Welcome! We are neighbors. I am in Saint Charles. I have a prairie bluebell 8-week old chick also - we call her splash because she is white but has little splashes of black and other colors coming through. Where did you get your chicks? We got ours at Trellis on Kirk Road. We got our Buff Orpingtons and Easter Eggers from there last year too. I've never head any health issues.

Super close by! We got our chicks at Trellis as well. Sounds like our prairie bluebells look similar. She is super cute. Can't wait to see what she looks like full grown.
